5 times I had a near death experience

Saturday, 9 December 2017

Not everybody gets to see how much this life is loveable by almost losing it, some people never live to tell the tale of their encounter with a life taking event or element.

'Near death experience' as it is called, is an experience gotten from by a survivor, one that entails the feelings of fear, numbness, most times a rushy flood if light or dark and a quickening urge to do something (speedy running off in most cases).

These are few times I have found myself in a position that I nearly lost my life and experienced most of the signs stated above or even more.

1) Suffocation: I was in primary six (6) when I had my first NDE that I can recall, although I was told that as a child I almost died because of typhoid and malaria I was so sick that I had to learn how to walk anew.
At school; we had a cupboard in the class where our form teacher  kept some ready materials, it happened that the lock was engineered to bolt upon jam.
My friends and I were playing hide and seek game that faithful afternoon when I hid in one of the closets big enough to hide me, I was totally unaware of the mechanics of the door so I jammed it. My friends searched everywhere for me. It was not until breaktime was over and the First Class mid way that I was discovered unconscious due to shortage of air in the cupboard.

2) Drowning:
Yeah, truly you could say I am one of those stubborn breed of this generation. It was not long after my family lost someone to a river, all the kids were warned to desist from swimming especially without supervision. I was bored so I join other children of my age then to the stream so I could continue with my swimming lessons, unfortunately and contrary to my initial belief that at least an adult will be by the stream to guide and supervise but there was non, given that we had come so far, to turn back without having a swimming would be a total waste and a strong sign of weakness. So we got undressed and jumped in, other kids were doing fine but the more I kicked and stroked the more I went underwater, I became scarred,  I couldn't open my eyes, breathing was elusive so I started to drink from the water until I thought I was dead.. Wait; I stopped thinking and moving, then a hand from no where grabbed at my left hand and lifted me. When I woke up I was by the river bank, immediately I got conscious enough I started begging them not to tell my family.

3) Sick with Measules at age 12.
Due to the nature of our environment in the south eastern part of Nigeria, children are prone to all sort of ailments and sickness. I got infected with measules, it go so bad that my eye colours changed from the cornea to the pupil. I was seeing death in my sleep, on almost every one's face as the drugs I took the more deterioted I became.

4) Stray Bullet from the Nigeria Army:
It was during a riot that started after an inconclusive youth election in my community, one part revolted and destroyed properties so the most capable got the military involved, one thing lead to another and a mass arrest ensued. They took almost every within reach, the once who ran were shot at,  I ran without thought as to direction and other things in proximity after a man running alongside me was gunned down.

5) Auto Crash 2013:
Like every other kid opportuned to have a car at reach, you'd want to at one time or another feel like you are in the movie playing James Bond or Paul Walker in Fast and furious.  Well that was me in September 12th with a Toyota SUV. I almost crashed into a Police Van but it was averted as I made a quick turn to the left, screeching on a one lane path, one side of the car fell into the drainage while I was stock in the car with the radio on the highest volume for almost 30 minutes.
The next day a baby boy was born into the family.

These are the few time I felt I was literally dying, but I didn't. I still feel the adrenaline rush, the deafening silence. I reminisce on these days and find reasons to thank God for all that I have been through and where I am.
