The University of Sheffield in UK invites applications for the Hossein Farmy Scholarship founded by the late Hossein Farmy, a graduate of the University’s former Department of Mining. It is available for students pursuing research related to mining, including, but not limited to the geological, engineering, scientific and technological aspects of mining, and the archaeological, economic, historical, legal and social aspects of mining and the mining industry.

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis – applications are assessed on the basis of academic success and qualifications, experience, research background, a clear well-articulated research proposal, the potential impact of the research and a good match with supervisor/ departmental expertise. You can expect to hear if your scholarship application has been successful by the end of April 2018.

The Hossein Farmy Scholarship covers the cost of the UK tuition fees and provides an annual, tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard UK Research rate (£14,553 in 2017/18).
Worth of Award

Awards are tenable for a maximum of three years full-time subject to satisfactory progress.
Eligibility
You should be intending to pursue a course of research related to mining.
You should have, or expect to achieve, a first or upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK in an appropriate area of study.
You should be registering on your first year of doctoral study with the University for 2018-19
Awards are open to UK applicants only.
