Thursday, 14 December 2017
As at yesterday evening after the visit of Gov. Rochas, a blazing fire erupted at the New market Douglas, as in known people were reported to have set it ablaze.
The inferno started after the traders resisted the Governor's relocation and demolition of the market The Governor has given the trader the Friday to vacate the market in line with his claimed urban renewal programme. But suddenly the Governor showed up on Wednesday, two days before the earlier given.
Earlier, it was reported by some women who went to buy wares at Douglas Road that some security officials shot some people in their attempt to take the market, injuring many and causing pandemonium
It was also gathered that they threw sachet water at the "unpopular governor" (as they referred to him).
No statement gas been issued from the Douglas House as at the time of this report.
Recall that in August, the prestigious Plaza, Ekeonunwa market were relocated and demolished by the governor which didn't go Don well with the populace, this was followed by the fight between the Owerri people and Ohaji/Egbema.
